タイトル: From plastic to peace: Overcoming public antipathy through environmental cooperation著者: Uji, Azusa; Lim, Sijeong; Song, Jaehyun抄録: Citizen distrust towards the rival country is a defining feature of protracted international rivalries, undermining meaningful cooperation that can lead to mutual benefits. How might governments establish a public opinion base that is more supportive of cooperation with the rival country? We argue that information about ongoing environmental cooperation with the rival country makes citizens more supportive of non-environmental cooperation by changing their beliefs about the rival’s trustworthiness and facilitating extrinsic reciprocity. We investigate this potential micro-level cooperation spillover in the context of the longstanding rivalry between Japan and South Korea. Our survey-based experiment finds that information about cooperation on marine plastic pollution shapes the public’s willingness to cooperate in terms of the econ ...

タイトル: E-contact facilitated by conversational agents reduces interethnic prejudice and anxiety in Afghanistan著者: Sahab, Sofia; Haqbeen, Jawad; Hadfi, Rafik; Ito, Takayuki; Imade, Richard Eke; Ohnuma, Susumu; Hasegawa, Takuya抄録: Intergroup contact occurring through indirect means such as the internet has the potential to improve intergroup relationships and may be especially beneficial in high conflict situations. Here we conducted a three-timepoint online experiment to ascertain whether the use of a conversational agent in E-contact platforms could mitigate interethnic prejudices and hostility among Afghanistan’s historically segregated and persistently conflictual ethnic groups. 128 Afghans of Pashtun, Tajik, and Hazara backgrounds were assigned to one of four E-contact conditions (control with no conversational agent and three experimental groups that varied in the conversational agent settings). Participants in the experimental conditions contributed more ideas and ...

Iqbal; Jamaludin,; Hadiko, Gunawan; Herma, Ema; Inoguchi, Emi; Jensen, Michael P.; Madden, Christine A.; Nishizawa, Hideaki; Maryani, Leni; Farajallah, Achmad; Subhan, Beginer; Bengen, Dietriech G.; Madduppa, Hawis抄録: Indonesia is an archipelagic country that provides important nesting and foraging habitats for the critically endangered hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata). Although many studies have investigated this migratory species globally, there is a lack of information on the population structure and geographic boundary of this species in Indonesia. This study aims to investigate the genetic diversity and population structure of six nesting sites in the Java Sea region of Indonesia. The control region (d-loop) sequence (818 bp) was obtained from 152 individuals, resulting in 20 haplotypes. ...

タイトル: Overview of the population genetics and connectivity of sea turtles in the East Asia Region and their conservation implications著者: Ng, Connie Ka Yan; Ishihara, Takashi; Hamabata, Tomoko; Nishizawa, Hideaki; Liu, Min; Song, Jia-hao; Li, Tsung Hsien; Fong, Chia-Ling; Moon, Dae Yeon; Kim, Il Hun抄録: Understanding the current status and recent development of the population genetics and connectivity of sea turtles is crucial for effective conservation management of the species. Five sea turtle species, green turtle (Chelonia mydas), loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta), hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), olive ridley turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea) and leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea), are recorded in the East Asia Region situated in the western side of the North Pacific Ocean. We compiled information from 35 published genetic studies on the five sea turtle species, with a focus on green turtle and loggerhead turtle, which are the most studied species (in ...

タイトル: Meshless Non-Parametric Shape Design of Piecewise Approximately Developable Surfaces Using Discretized Local Gauss Map著者: Hayakawa, Kentaro; Ohsaki, Makoto; Zhang, Jingyao抄録: A meshless and non-parametric approach is proposed for shape design of curved surfaces consisting of approximately developable surface patches. A local Gauss map is defined at the grid point of a surface, and its developability is evaluated based on the area of the local Gauss map. An optimization problem is formulated for minimizing the sum of square areas of the local Gauss map at the grid points of the surface with specified boundary shape. Internal boundaries between the approximately developable surface patches are generated by relaxing the developability at the selected grid points. The effectiveness of the proposed method for generating various shapes of piecewise approximately developable surface is demonstrated in the numerical examples.

Title: Identification of cheese rancidity-related lipases in Aspergillus oryzae AHU 7139Authors: Chintagavongse, Napaporn; Kumura, Haruto; Hayakawa, Toru; Wakamatsu, Jun-ichi; Tamano, KoichiAbstract: The adjunct product with enzymatic activity from Aspergillus oryzae is beneficial for flavor enrichment in the ripened cheese. However, an excessive lipolytic reaction leads to the release of volatile free fatty acids. Accordingly, a strong offflavor (i.e., rancidity) has been detected when A. oryzae AHU 7139 is used. To identify the rancidity -related lipase from this strain, we evaluated the substrate specificity and lipase distribution using five mutants cultured on a whey -based solid medium under different initial pH conditions. The results showed a higher diacylglycerol lipase activity than triacylglycerol lipase activity. Moreover, an initial pH of 6.5 for the culture resulted in higher lipolytic activity than a pH of 4.0, and most of the activity was found in the extracellular frac ...
