Large-scale vortex formation in three-dimensional rotating Rayleigh-Bénard convection

タイトル: Large-scale vortex formation in three-dimensional rotating Rayleigh-Bénard convection著者: Sasaki, Hirofumi; Takehiro, Shin-ichi; Yamada, Michio抄録: Numerical experiments are performed on three-dimensional thermal convection between parallel plates in a rotating system with a larger horizontal region than in previous studies. It is confirmed that a large-scale vortex (LSV) with positive vorticity (cyclonic) is formed over a significant part of the region and its horizontal size increases if the horizontal region is extended. The correlation analysis in the vertical direction shows that the small-scale motion has a typical structure of the baroclinic vortex of thermal convection in the rotating system, whereas the large-scale motion is a barotropic vortex that is not associated with thermal convection. A horizontal spectral analysis of the individual terms in the kinetic energy equation reveals that the nonlinear effect of the small-scale vortex motion caused by the ...

Avacopan's potential to decrease MPO-ANCA titres concurrent with ameliorated activity in ANCA-associated vasculitis
from Kyoto University Research Information Repository (2024/6/1 9:00:00)

タイトル: Avacopan's potential to decrease MPO-ANCA titres concurrent with ameliorated activity in ANCA-associated vasculitis著者: Taniguchi, Tomoki; Hiwa, Ryosuke; Shoji, Mikihito; Yamaguchi, Eriho; Shirakashi, Mirei; Onizawa, Hideo; Tsuji, Hideaki; Kitagori, Koji; Nakashima, Ran; Akizuki, Shuji; Onishi, Akira; Yoshifuji, Hajime; Tanaka, Masao; Morinobu, Akio抄録: Avacopan, an orally administered C5a receptor antagonist, is effective in microscopic polyangiitis via the inhibition of neutrophil priming induced by C5a. However, the exact effect of avacopan on the production of myeloperoxidase antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (MPO-ANCA) is yet to be clearly established. This report presents a microscopic polyangiitis patient without major organ damage where high levels of MPO-ANCA persisted with high-dose steroid therapy and azathioprine, but the addition of avacopan led to a reduction in MPO-ANCA titres. The present case implies that avacopan-mediated inhibition of C5a may le ...
Public attitudes to urban wild deer (Cervus nippon) and management policies: A case study of Kyoto City, Japan

from Kyoto University Research Information Repository (2024/6/1 9:00:00)
タイトル: Public attitudes to urban wild deer (Cervus nippon) and management policies: A case study of Kyoto City, Japan著者: Yu, Zhuzhu; Nukina, Ryo; Xie, Yusong; Shibata, Shozo抄録: The expansion of urban areas has resulted in the fragmentation and reduction of natural habitats. This leads to a fundamental reconfiguration of interactions between humans and wildlife, with profound ecological, social, and policy implications. However there is a research gap in understanding public perceptions of urban wildlife and their management. This study pursues three objectives: (1) to explore the primary types of conflicts between the public and urban wildlife, focusing on Sika deer (Cervus nippon) as an example; (2) to examine public attitudes towards urban deer; and (3) to investigate differences in public acceptance of hunting and fencing management policies. A questionnaire survey was conducted in the urban area of Kyoto City, Japan in September 2022 (n = 759). The survey addressed i ...
Theoretical study on dynamic response stability of reinforced concrete structures with a negative skeleton curve gradient under steady-state oscillation

from Kyoto University Research Information Repository (2024/6/1 9:00:00)
タイトル: Theoretical study on dynamic response stability of reinforced concrete structures with a negative skeleton curve gradient under steady-state oscillation著者: Uemura, Keita; Watanabe, Kosuke; Takahashi, Yoshikazu抄録: The dynamic stability of reinforced concrete structures in regions of reduced restoring force was theoretically investigated according to the ductility and negative gradient in the skeleton curve of their restoring force - displacement relationship, using the frequency response function derived by Caughey (1960). This method derives the frequency response function, which is a relational expression between input and response, for a single-degree-of-freedom system subjected to a harmonic external force in the form of a cosine wave; it also derives two conditions that make the response solution of a nonlinear one-degree-of-freedom system unstable. The results of the investigation showed that the behavioral range in which the structure was stable in the regio ...
