『和ろうそくの世界』（大石孔／［ほか］著 文葉社 2002）p.29~31にハゼの木の実から作る「木ろう」について記載があり、他の植物性のろうについても紹介あり。『キャンドルを楽しむ』（講談社 1986）p.107には、室町後期には、ウルシ、ハゼの実、ヌルデ、ヤブニッケイ等の植物から採取した「木ろう」で和ろうそくが作られるようになったとある。

神田山は現在の駿河台のあたり。『日本歴史地名大系13』(平凡社 2002) p.160「駿河台」の項に「江戸城の東にある丘陵。北側に神田川が流れ当初は神田山・神田台とよばれていた」とある。『江戸の都市計画』(鈴木理生／著 筑摩書房 2024) では、江戸建設は「最初から大江戸の姿を目指したのではなく、その時々の必要をみたすために、まず最小限の工事が行なわれ、その結果が熟して新しい必要性が生まれたときに、また建設が追加されるという形のものだった。」（p.177）と解説する。日比谷入江埋立は沖積地不足の解決と、敵船からの防衛のためとし（p.186）、御茶ノ水の掘割りの目的は、平川・小石川の洪水から城と中心市街地を守るためで、揚土は水害を防ぐ土手に利用され、柳原の土手の記述もある（p.190）。p.223には、陸地化の土 ...
