谷三山の略歴については、『朝日日本歴史人物事典』(朝日新聞社/編 朝日新聞社 1994.11)に、「享和2(1802)～慶応3.12.11(1868.1.5) 江戸後期の儒学者。名は操,字は子正また存誠,通称市三,新助,のち昌平。三山は号。大和国(奈良県)高市郡八木で商業を営む父重之と母ちやの3男。家は豊かであったが幼少より多病で,15,6歳ごろ聴力を失う。正史経伝の勉学に励み,文政12(1829)年京に出て猪飼敬所に就いた。天保6(1835)年ごろ家塾興譲館をおこし門人多数におよんだ。15年1月高取藩(奈良県)藩主植村家教により儒臣に抜擢され士籍に列した。その学問は経世に志あり,また藩政や尊王攘夷,あるいは山陵修復についてなど,たびたび上書した。頼山陽,森田節斎などと親しかった。晩年に失明した。」（p.1043）と書かれています。谷三山についての資料には、以下 ...
