熊本藩から移管された旧藩関係記録、明治5年（1872年）に白川県が作成した士族関係・職制に関する行政文書、明治6年（1873年）から昭和12年（1937年） まで熊本県（明治9年まで白川県）が作成した土地関係文書や県議会決議録、官員進退等の決裁など、県政全般の多岐にわたる行政文書と記録類。明治9年（1876年）の神風連、明治10年（1877年）の西南戦争など、全57項目に項目ごとに整理されている。このうち、陸軍省（のち内務省が所管）に提出するために明治5年（1872年）以降に全国の各郡、各町村で編纂された「郡誌」「村誌」は、関東大震災で原本が焼失しているが、この資料群の中には熊本県が調査した「郡誌」「村誌」の第一次浄書または草稿と考えられるものが残っている。明治期の行政資料がまとまった形で残っているのは全 ...

上妻博之（こうづま まさゆき）氏（明治12年（1879年）－昭和42年（1967年））は、教師として50余年間教育に携わるかたわら、熊本行幸記念植物採集会を開いて広く山野を歩き、後身を指導した植物学者として著名である。また、上妻氏の大きな功績の一つが、肥後に関する古文書・古記録の書写による保存である。書き写した史料は細川家北岡邸文庫や宮村典太、中野嘉太郎、河島豊秋などの諸家蔵本であるが、数十年にわたって美濃紙に丁寧に手写しされ、絵や図は原本のとおりに模写された。各写本の巻末には、筆写を起こした日時と終了した日時を明記、原本・蔵者の紹介、写本を行った動機なども刻明に記載されている。上妻氏はこれに「秉燭雑録」（へいしょくざつろく）と名付け、438冊に編集、所蔵されていた。昭和43年（1968年 ...
