Title: Production cross sections of 47Sc via alpha-particle-induced reactions on natural calcium up to 29 MeVAuthors: Aikawa, Masayuki; Hanada, Yukina; Ichinkhorloo, Dagvadorj; Haba, Hiromitsu; Takács, Sándor; Ditrói, Ferenc; Szűcs, ZoltánAbstract: Production cross sections of a medical radioisotope 47Sc via alpha-particle-induced reactions on natural calcium were measured up to 29 MeV. The stacked-foil activation technique and gamma-ray spectrometry were adopted for the experiment. Cross sections of simultaneously formed radionuclides 46,44m,44g,43Sc and 47Ca were also determined. Physical yields of the alpha-particle-induced reactions on natCa and 44Ca were deduced from the measured cross sections.

Herein, the in situ small-crack growth of a beta titanium alloy, Ti-22V-4Al, was monitored by a combination of microtomography (micro-CT) and nanotomography (nano CT). The 3D characteristics of small cracks and the corresponding stress intensity factor range (AK) were obtained by micro-CT; the cracks initiated at _*_10% fatigue life. In the low-AK regime, the scatter of the crack aspect ratio and the deviation in the crack propagation rate were significant; however, they decreased with increasing AK, reflecting the microstructural effect on small-crack propagation. Title: Evaluation of flocculation performance of polysaccharide-protamine complex flocculant by flocculation modelAuthors: Maruyama, Hideo; Seki, HideshiAbstract: Flocculation experiments were conducted with three kinds of polysaccharide-protamine complex flocculants. Alginate, κ-carrageenan, and pectin were used as typical polysaccharides. The polysaccharides have carboxyl and sulfate groups, and it can be considered that the polysaccharides could bind basic protein, such as protamine, at around the neutral pH (pH 6.5–7.5). The relative absorbance was used as an index of the flocculation efficiency. Influences of the mass ratio (polysaccharide/protamine) and dosage of the complex flocculants on the flocculation efficiency were investigated. Judging from the results, the optimum mass ratio of polysaccharide and protamine was found as 0.4 for alginate and 1.0 for κ-carrageenan and pectin. Title: A rapid synthesis of Hf-Beta zeolite as highly active catalyst for Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley reduction by controlling water content of precursor gelAuthors: Nakamura, Taichi; Kamiya, Yuichi; Otomo, RyoichiAbstract: Hf-Beta is a promisingly active Lewis acid catalyst for Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley (MPV) reduction and other important organic reactions. However, the conventional hydrothermal synthesis of Hf-Beta inevitably requires the troublesome procedure for hydrolysis of tetraethoxysilane and the long period to complete crystallization. In the present study, we applied a synthetic approach of reducing water content of precursor gel and succeeded in considerably shortening the period for crystallization of Hf-Beta using fumed silica as silicon source.
